The planning of this trip started since June 2017, after returning from the self-planned solo Amsterdam trip. The notion of train ride has been there all this while - which I think, would offer a totally different experience. Looked up for various popular train rides in Australia and Canada, that possibly landed up with overnight rides. In addition, June would be a good time to go places that are less accessible in December. Heard of the amazing scenery of the Canadian Rockies. Heard about memorable rides, too. (Oh yes, I remember what Peter told me when we were colleagues back in NAS, before his retirement.) While I was examining the various packages offered by the Rocky Mountaineer, a tinkle came... and a chat started with a service personnel! That's the wonders of technology and it has helped me to make a choice, too!

Makan @ our own: Vancouver, Kamloops, Banff and Jasper

Meals on our own... where we explored mostly places near our accommodation.
Indeed, we tried a variety of food... a mix of western, oriental (including japanese) and those of the First Natives.

Vancouver

2 June, Dinner @ The Vancouver Fish Company on Granville Island

3 June, Breakfast @ Maxim's, Chinatown

Maybe because it was still early, there wasn't much choices in Chinatown, but we walked into a known 'label' - the food was reasonably priced, but, considering it's a Hong Kong cafe, its standard was not near to expectation, actually.

Porridge was pretty tasty :)

... but the noodle was a bit too oily.

8 June, Dinner @ Marutama Ra-men

There was a long queue despite that fact that it was close to 8 pm. Oh yes, most of the seats were occupied by Asians! One thing to note, this restaurant only accepts payment via credit card!

9 June, Breakfast @ Cafe in Capilano Suspension Bridge Park

A cup of cappuccino and a big piece of vegetarian samosa

9 June, Lunch @ Mahony and Sons, Canada Place

In Canada, it seemed that restaurants do not charge water (be it cold or hot).
Indeed, it's usually nicely served with a slice of lemon :)

Papaya salad, which is definitely way different from the Thai style's.
It came with cheese and fried wanton skin! crisp....

Potato soup

Actually wanted to order ribs but the restaurant did not have. The waitress recommended the bites and it turned out to be our chinese-styled roasted pork.

This caught my attention very quickly after we settled down.
What? We can check our bill by scanning the QR code?
Love this convenience!

9 June, Ice Cream @ Gastown

10 June, Lunch @ Tim Hortons, Food Court

10 June, Dinner @ Memphis

11 June, Breakfast @ MacDonald's

11 June, Quick bites @ Airport, Vancouver

Kamloops

4 June, Dinner @ Frick and Track Tap House

7 June, Dinner @ Painted Pony Cafe

Banff

5 June, Dinner @ Pizza from Big Rock Brewery

Jasper

6 June, Dinner @ KFC
